Passphrase (25th word)

Additional password to seed phrase

Passphrase is a secret string added to your 24 words. One seed phrase with different passphrases creates completely different wallets with different addresses and balances.

How it works

Seed (24 words) + Passphrase = Unique wallet. Changing even one character completely changes all derived keys.

Advantages

  • BIP39 standard — supported by all wallets
  • Plausible deniability — can deny having funds
  • Infinite wallets from one seed
  • Easy to use

Risks

  • Forgot passphrase = lost everything forever
  • Typo when creating = different wallet
  • Too simple passphrase = brute-force attack

Wallet support

  • Ledger (Advanced → Passphrase)
  • Trezor (built-in feature)
  • Coldcard (multiple passphrases)
  • Keystone, BitBox and others

Try it yourself

For education only! Never enter real seed phrases.
